Because there were so many misunderstandings last year (2003) regarding the dress codes we decided to include them for you so you can prepare.

Classes 1 thru 17 on Saturday the rules are based on the USA Equestrian Rules as follows:

Article 2906. (Morgan Division) Attire. Rider’s attire should be suitable to the saddle being ridden. Protective headgear may be worn without penalty. (See General Rules, Art. 318)

Chapter IV. Attire and Equipment Article 318 Dress: states

1. It is the tradition of the competition ring that riders and drivers be correctly attired for the class in question, that attendants be neatly dressed and horses be properly presented.

4. Any exhibitor may wear protective headgear (ASTM/SEI) in any division or class without penalty form the judge.

7. Boot/shoes worn while riding anywhere on the competition grounds must have a distinguishable heel. (Exception: Arabian, Hackney Pony, Morgan, National Show Horse, Parade, Roadster, Saddlebred, and Saddle Seat Equitation).

Classes 18 thru 53 on Saturday and Classes 1 thru 52 on Sunday the rules are based on the Western Saddle Clubs Association Rules as follows:

#4 in the General Rule section states participants in all classes and events are to be attired in generally accepted western apparel (this means the slinky’s are permitted, any acceptable western wear you see at larger breed shows, folks), English apparel in English classes. Games are western events. HATS OR SAFETY HELMETS ARE REQUIRED in all events, games included, with the exception of classes where two persons ride 1 horse at 1 time. Note: Refer to specific class rule.

#16 in the General Rule section states Dress Code: Western attire in all western events. Contestant must wear western boots, western hat (or helmet), dress or western long or short sleeved shirt with collar, western pants or jeans. Vest, coat, sweater, belt, chaps or equitation suit optional. Lariat and/or slicker optional. Dress code may vary in certain classes; see specific class rules. Dress code may be relaxed only in the event of severe weather. (That decision to be made by the judge and/or show committee.)

Attire NOT allowed: sleeveless shirts; capped sleeve shirts; T-shirts (defined as an undershirt type of garment with no collar.) Only Western equipment in Western events. Only Hunt seat equipment in Hunt Seat events. Only Saddle Seat equipment in Saddle Seat events.

Safety Helmets: A rider may at his or her discretion wear appropriate protective headgear with secured harness in any event.
