WHAT IS A LIPPITT? (Reference: The Lippitt Club, Inc.)
A Lippitt Morgan is a Morgan of specific bloodlines.  All Lippitts trace back to 25 foundation horses.  The Lippitt Club, Inc was founded in 1973 by a group of individuals dedicated to preserving the old style Morgan.  The name `Lippitt' is borrowed from the breeding prefix of Robert Lippitt Knight who operated the Green Mountain Stock Farm in Randolph, Vermont, from 1927-1962. His stock was chosen almost exclusively from the 'Old Vermont' stock, though a few times he did outcross to Government and other lines. Along with most of Mr. Knight's horses, other Morgans, such as John A. Darling, Ethan Eldon and Select, are also included.

In order for Morgans to be considered Full Lippitts, they must be AMHA or CMHA registered Morgans, tracing back to the Lippitt Club's Foundation Stock, on every line of their pedigree.   To qualify as a half Lippitt, the sire and the dam of that horse must be an AMHA registered Morgan and one parent must be a full Lippitt by the Lippitt Club's definition.   Canadian registered Morgans are accepted but must meet both AMHA and Lippitt Club requirements.

After much discussion and a great deal of research, The Lippitt Club decided on the following group of 25 horses as our 'Foundation Stock'. It should be understood that these horses were chosen strictly for their breeding. The Foundation Stock adhere to the following characterizations: 
1. They are AMHA registered Morgans.
2. They have a close cross to our "Cornerstone", Peters' Ethan Allen 2nd 406.
3. They have produced at least one direct line of descent evidenced in our present 'Lippitt' population.
