From the time I learned to walk,
I have been a trail behind.
Tracks winding through the recently planted flower bed.
Muddy footprints across the newly washed floor.
Blazing trails through the freshly fallen snow.
Leaving puddles of melting snow when I come back inside.
All of these marks I have left behind.
Showing others where I have been.
Soon my footprints will take me on different journeys
As I grow and change, looking for my niche in life.
You’ve spent your life cleaning up the trail I’ve left behind.
Teaching me as we’ve traveled, leading me from behind.
I hope that as I grow, you’ll be proud of where my may feet take me.
Of what roads I choose to take and how I travel to those new places.
Here’s a footprint to remind you of the days when I was small.
One that won’t be washed away or fade with time.
Thank you for all you have done.
And for all that you will do in the years to come.
