The Void

The void within us when we loose someone dear to us, is so very hard to bear.
To try to explain it is just as hard.
Words such as desolation, emptiness and loneliness come to mind.
As well as sadness, fear, pain anger and guilt.
You start to question where you went wrong.
What you could have done differently.
People offer to try to help ease the pain, but they can't.
Those who truly understand just let you know they are there, and hold you close.
They offer a shoulder to be soaked with your tears of sorrow, anguish and loss.
You sit and wonder if you will ever feel whole again.
You feel like locking yourself away some place no one will ever reach.
So very cold and alone in that place. Empty, devoid of happiness, love and affection.
Why did we open our hearts in the first place?
Why do we risk such pain?
Because we all desire and need to feel loved.
We need to feel the acceptance, the affection, the caring.
Most things in life come with a price.
Love is no exception, for some the price is very high.
